Hi, I’m Melissa

Melissa means “honey bee” in Greek, so you’ll notice a bee on various pages of this site. Honey bees live in a highly organized society; similarly, I’m organized and a quick learner.

I have 10 years of experience and a Masters degree from the VCU Brandcenter; after 8+ years of working agency-side in media and strategy, I went client-side and worked as an Associate Strategy Director at Capital One. I learned a lot, but left after two years to build my own financial coaching company: The Bright Side Coaching.

I currently serve as Founder and CEO of The Bright Side Coaching, where I help people save, invest, and build wealth without giving up what they love.

As I continue to build the business, I’m available for work focused on marketing, brand strategy, or digital strategy.

My background & work ethic:

I was classically trained in brand strategy and earned my M.S. from the VCU Brandcenter, the top graduate advertising program in the country. As an introvert raised by two accountants, I naturally bring a focused and calm approach to ambiguous situations and quick-turn projects. I believe that blending logic with creativity and connecting dots that no one else notices is the key to driving strong business results.

When I set my mind to something, I make it happen: professionally, I moved up three strategy levels in barely over a year, and I worked on two Super Bowl commercials shortly after becoming a Senior Strategist at a global ad agency. Personally, I paid off $52,000 of student loans in just 26 months while living in a high cost of living city. I have a passion for helping others grow, which is what led me to launch The Bright Side Coaching.

My clear vision and drive to get things done, paired with my listening skills and empathy for others, sets me apart as a strategist and a leader.
